The Extended Urine Culture is suitable for people for whom sexual transmitted infections are not a risk or have been ruled out, and where the standard urine culture has not produced significant bacterial growth but symptoms of a urinary tract infection persist.
This test is not suitable for anyone who has not already had a standard urine culture. The test can be requested independently, but you may not need the additional expense of this particular test.
How does the Extended Urine test work?
Home Diagnostics will send a sample collection kit to you by Royal Mail for overnight delivery. The kit contains a urine collection pot with boric acid flakes to preserve your sample in transit. The kit has been validated for stability in transit.
The sample is incubated for for an extended period, which is helpful in identifying rarer bacterial causes of UTIs and fungi.
How is this packaged?
There is no mention of us on the outside of the packaging so no one will have any idea of what is inside the envelope.
The reply-paid return package is included as part of the service. This is returned to us using RM24 Tracked, which can be posted in any street mailbox.
How will I get my results?
Your results will be interpreted by a doctor and made available on your patient dashboard.
