Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea -Rectal Swab
Is the Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea rectal swab right for me?
If you have received anal sex and are concerned that you may have exposed yourself to risk, then this test is appropriate for you. You may wish to add other tests (such as HIV).
How the Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea rectal test works
At Home Diagnostics you can quickly and easily order a sample kit and post it back to our laboratory where the sample will be analysed. If your test is positive then we will can arrange for a partner clinic to organise the appropriate medication for you. This test comprises a swab for the rectum, which is very easy for patients to take in the comfort of their own home. The kit comes with full instructions.
Is rectal swab test accurate?
The Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea rectal swab that you will get through the post is basically the same test that you would be offered by any private GP. We use TDL Pathology, which is one of the leading pathology labs in the United Kingdom. Your result is checked by a doctor, who interprets the results for you.
How long does it take?
Your kit will be sent out as soon as we receive your order. If you order the kit before the cut-off time Monday to Friday, it will be sent out on that day, using next day delivery, which means that you should get it the following morning. It normally takes about 24 hours to get the results back from the lab on the standard screen and any medication you require will be sent out next day delivery as well. You can upgrade to the 4 hour guaranteed screen if time is of the essence.
How long should I wait to be tested?
At Home Diagnostics we recommend that you get tested as soon as possible but please note that is can take two weeks for chlamydia to show up in a sample and 7 days for gonorrhea. If you get tested before 14 days after the point of infection, then the result may come back negative (even though you have actually been infected) so we would ask you to repeat the test.
