Home Diagnostics HIV and Syphilis Panel
At Home Diagnostics we are able to provide you with 4th generation HIV testing. The 4th generation test can detect an antigen signalling an HIV infection as early as 10 days after you have been exposed to HIV.
The Syphilis element of the test can detect antibodies as early as 9 days post infection.
Both of these tests are run from the same small blood sample that you can collect at home using one of our specially designed kits.
How long do results take?
Results are usually back from the laboratory within 6 hours of the sample being booked in. It can sometimes take longer or shorter times (depending on lab volumes). 6 hours is the long run average for this test panel.
Is the test result reliable?
Your sample is tested in one of the leading UK laboratories used by both the NHS and private healthcare providers. Self-collect samples have undergone end to end validation to ensure that they produce the same results as clinician-collected samples.
A negative HIV result at 6 weeks (following any risk event) is considered conclusive. A negative result earlier than 6 weeks needs to be repeated at the appropriate juncture. The earliest HIV can be detected is 10 days.
Syphilis is usually detectable between 9 - 21 days post infection. A repeat test is recommended at 12 weeks to confirm a negative result.
Syphilis Confirmation Test
For patients who have had a syphilis infection previously, this antibody test will always be postive, so it is not the recommended test. Patients who have been treated for syphilis in the past require a different type of test that is not provided by our service, as a venous sample is required. This syphilis confirmation test is able to distinguish between an active infection and a past (treated) infection.
