Herpes Blood Test


What does this test show?

The Herpes IgG antibody blood test will tell you if you have had the herpes virus. Antibodies are a marker of a past infection. The test result distinguishes between Herpes Simplex 1 and Herpes Simplex 2 antibodies. This test does NOT tell you if you have an active herpes episode. For this, you will require a swab of an active lesion.

When can I test?

You can test at any time, but the IgG antibodies for herpes will normally reach detectable levels around 12 - 16 weeks after infection and will normally remain detectable for life.

How does the test work?

Home Diagnostics will send a self-collection kit that is a licensed medical device appropriate for use by patients at home. You can use the kit to extract a small amount of blood from a finger. This is then sent back to our laboratory using a reply-paid envelope using a next day tracked service.

How long do results take?

Results are available 24 - 48 hours after your sample arrives at the laboratory.

Do you provide index numbers?

Yes. Index numbers are included with your test result.
