Ureaplasma and Mycoplasma Test
Is the Mycoplasma and Ureaplasma Test right for me?
If you have had a negative test result for other bacterial infections such as Chlamydia or Gonorrhoea but you have symptoms or are concerned about these infections then you may wish to consider getting tested for Ureaplasma and Mycoplasma. If you have tested positive for Ureaplasma and Mycoplasma in the past and you would like to check that the treatment has worked then this would also be an appropriate test for you to have.
If you are suffering any symptoms which suggest that you might have an STI (but have not been tested) then we strongly recommend that you have a Full STI Screen so that we can discover what is causing your symptoms.
How does the test work?
Order your test kit online and we will send it to you by next day delivery or first class mail (depending on your preference). Provide the sample (either urine or vaginal swab) as directed and return it to our lab for analysis. The lab uses a process called PCR, which provides highly accurate results. As soon as the results for both tests are back, we will post these onto a secure area of our website, which can only be accessed by you. We do not send out results by email or post unless you specifically ask us to do so.
What happens if the test comes back positive?
We are able to treat patients who test positive for Ureaplasma and Mycoplasma with an appropriate antibiotic. All our medications are sent out by an overnight courier, so that they get to you as quickly as possible for you to start your treatment.
How quickly does this happen?
The kit will be dispatched to you soon after you have placed your order. If the order is received before the cut-off time Monday to Friday then it will be dispatched on the same day and should get to you by the following morning. Test results are usually available within 36 hours of the sample being received. This turnaround time is based on average lab volumes.
Are the results reliable?
Our lab uses PCR technology, which is one of the most reliable systems available.
How long should I wait before getting tested?
It usually takes at least fourteen days from the point of infection for either of these bacterial infections to show up in any test. If you are having a test following a positive result for either Ureaplasma or Mycoplasma then we recommend you wait at least three weeks from the point when you were treated before being tested again. You can get tested at any point but if you do not wait until the appropriate juncture then we will recommend a retest.
